Technics teams up with DJ Sven Väth for the launch of the new version of the SL-1210MK7 turntable. The collaboration began in May 2019, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the iconic “Cocoon Ibiza” parties and the launch of the turntable.

Sven started DJing in 1986, when he collaborated with OFF to create the hit “Electric Salsa”. In those years, he started using the then advanced Technics SL-1210MK2. This DJ still plays only vinyl, preferring the natural sound it offers and the show.

“Watching passionate professionals like Sven work with the MK7, using all the tools Technics engineers have created is quite an experience. We are very proud to be part of the music culture.” Frank Balzuweit, Technical Product Expert Europe for Technics.

“I love Technics turntables, they never fail. They last a long time and withstand adverse weather conditions, especially when I play outdoors. Their handling is intuitive and easy; new models always have improvements, but without losing their authenticity.” Sven Väth, Cocoon.

Sven’s well-known “Cocoon Ibiza” events haven’t stopped for 20 years, just like Technics, which has always found innovative ways to bring the latest technologies to the dance floor. The MK7 has been designed to follow the line and functionality of previous models, but the materials and electronics are completely new.

“We want DJs to immediately feel comfortable with the MK7,” adds Blazuweit, “Familiarization with the equipment has become an intrinsic element of the development process. We want to surprise them with increased functionality.”

The 7 main features of the MK7:

  • New coreless motor avoids cogging effect and adds a more powerful needle
  • New Tone Arm, maintaining the S-shaped silhouette, but now made of aluminum with high-precision bearings for better performance and improved reliability.
  • Familiar operation – any DJ can use it directly while maintaining the classic Technics design.
  • Adjustable needle and braking speed can be adjusted “under the hood” (avoiding additional controls on the top surface), to change the way the deck responds to each DJ’s style.
  • Tilt control can be adjusted in larger increments, more accurately and reset to normal at the touch of a button.
  • Reverse Play, a new tool for DJs.
  • Detachable cables, a simple but very practical improvement. DJs can use their favorite interconnects and cables.

Sven adds an eighth point to the list: “I love the new design in black with the same color finishes”.
